In September 2024 the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources awarded Platteville Community Arboretum a stewardship grant of $136,700 for half the costs of creating an extension to the David Canny Rountree Branch Trail.  We are asking for your help to raise money for the matching grant to cover the land, appraisals, closing costs, and survey work.  With this expansion we'll have a scenic and peaceful route along the old railroad bed and the option for a trail head.  Please consider making a donation to this project.

There's a parcel on Valley Road that could become a trailhead with parking, gardens, picnic area, informational kiosks and maybe bathrooms. There's also a stretch of abandoned railroad bed from Business 151 to Eastside Road that's almost a mile-long that would expand the trails in town.

All donations are appreciated. Note there are special Donor Recognition Levels:

  • Porter ($2,000-$4,999)

  • Conductor ($5,000-$9,999)

  • Dispatcher ($10,000-$19,999)

  • Engineer ($20,000+)

Donors at these four levels will be acknowledged on special kiosks, press releases, on this website, and through social media.
